REL is the acronym of Liguria hiking network, a tourist-excursion system aimed at encouraging the use of rural areas and eco-friendly tourism development through the practice of hiking and other cultural, sporting and recreational open air activities. The backbone of the network is the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, a route of over 400 km that crosses the whole Liguria. With the approval of the law n.24 of 16 June 2009 "Liguria excursion enjoyment network", the Region laid the foundations for a coordinated action to protect and enhance the most interesting routes, starting from those that link the protected and most relevant areas in the region. It is possible to cover 150 km of trails in the Park and surrounding areas. [online mapping] [App from Apple Store or Google Play CINQUE TERRE HIKING GUIDE] [National Park Paths]

AV5T - Alta Via delle 5 Terre ( ex path 1 )

It is the ridge path that starts from Portovenere and crosses the whole National Park in the direction of Genoa where it connects to the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (AVML). It is the backbone of the path system of our places. All paths that link the sea with the interior cross the AV5T. It does not present large differences in height in the first short stretch that leads from Portovenere to Muzzerone. Alternate along the path undergrowth tracts with others that allow beautiful views of the coast.

501 (ex path 01) La Foce  Castè  Riomaggiore 3h (6.2 kms)

It is the path that starts from the Foce di La Spezia through Castè (350 m asl) and leads to Riomaggiore. It is an ancient link road used in the past for trade between the interior and the sea. Shortly after the village of Castè the trail crosses the village of Carpena (408 m asl). Just outside Carpena, crossing the asphalt road you enter the forest and you do not leave it any more until the crossroads with the AV5T in Sella Croce (637 m asl). After crossing the ridge path there is the beginning of the descent that leads to Riomaggiore. The average journey time from Castè to Riomaggiore is 1h 55 '

531 Riomaggiore Manarola 1h (1,5 kms)

This is the via della Beccara path, the old link between Riomaggiore and Manarola. It's a very scenic hiking trail.

506 - 586 - 587 Manarola Volastra Corniglia 3h (3,5 kms)

One of the most beautiful trails in the National Park. The part of the path from Manarola to Volastra is a steep climb. Under a scorching sun it could be a bit exhausting but it pays in the breathtaking panoramic wievs.. It's also possible to take a bus from Manarola to Volastra ( the bus timetable is in the page Local Trasnports). The path from Volastra (335 m asl) to Corniglia is easy: it takes you through the vineyard and the Mediterranean  scrub offering stunning views of the sea and the coast. The travel time is about 3 hours (1h45' from Volastra to Corniglia),

566 Castè Codeglia 45' (1.2 kms)

The short path (1.2 km) leaves from Castè and leads to the village of Codeglia (a detour with number 566c leads to Lower Porcale). It is almost completely immersed in a fantastic forest of oaks and chestnut trees. Along the way are the remains of water mills in operation until the middle of the last century and a rest area with wooden benches and tables.

510 Tour of the Palmaria Island 3h  (6kms)

travel time 3h medium difficulty

The path, from the locality of Terrizzo, starts on a dirt road that climbs gently up the hillside along the part of the island facing the Gulf of La Spezia and that allows you to see the Fortress Umberto I, the Torre Scola and the many beaches of Cala della Fornace. A detour, uphill on the right of the path, leads to the former post-post-exhibition station, in the Roccio, considered one of the most beautiful terraces in Liguria and surrounded in spring by large blooms of broom, red valerian but above all the site of the cistus red at the limit of its distribution area. Continuing along the half-way path, which runs along the south side of the island, through a patch of Mediterranean scrub alternating with areas of garigue and holm oak, a steep descent takes place that requires attention in facing it but that allows you to reach the beach of Pozzale and the other docking of Palmaria (you can go back to the Terrizzo, to Porto Venere or to La Spezia with the boats). A pleasant promenade leads to the beaches with the neighboring area characterized by the presence of a quarry of "marble" Portoro, in a recent past source of work and now the undisputed realm of the sea gulls that nest here. Leaving behind the panorama of the Isola del Tino, we start the ascent through the wildest and wildest part of the path that leads to the top of the Palmaria at an altitude of 186 m asl, which offers panoramic views of great beauty on the vastness of the open sea. on the cliffs, the undisputed realm of the cornflower of Porto Venere, an exclusive species of the Protected Area. Once you reach the road, from which some variants are detached, turning left you arrive at the Center for Environmental Education (C.E.A.). Going on you reach the dirt road from where the most impervious path of the island starts, facing the Arpaia promontory where the small church of San Pietro di Porto Venere rises. Once you reach the sea level, a simple path between the beach and the path, sea scents and caresses of wind, waves lapping and screeching seagulls, leads to the starting point of the Terrizzo.
